So I decided to do a weekly blog series on my favorite movies from each decade starting from the 2000s. Some hints about this movie.
It is a now widely quoted cult classic.
It is widely considered the leading actress's best work.
It's quotability was a large showcase for its screenwriter who continued to write screenplays (if you will).
It is a true depiction of high school life.
Give up?
It is my third favorite movie of all time......
MEAN GIRLS.
I adore classic movies. I could live on TMC. Yet, I feel this movie could become a classic. I watched this when I was in eighth grade and went, "Holy crap, this is so true. Every little thing these girls do feels so authentic."
Besides the authentic feistiness (if you will) of these girls. There are so many quotes from this movie that are so into our culture right now that if you say one line around people under the age of 30, at least one person will get it and probably give you the next line of dialogue. Come on, think about it.
-"That's so fetch"
-Anything that Karen (Amanda Seyfried, pre-Big Love and Mamma Mia fame)says
-The gym teacher's lecture about not having sex
-Also anything Damien says is quotable.
This was really the first real example of Tina Fey's awesome screenplay (As a huge fan of SNL, I have to say that although Tina Fey was the head writer, it was still a lot of team work. That's my justification for my above statement)
Anyway, if you haven't seen Mean Girls, go see it. You'll laugh and nod your head in agreement.
