Some more awards from "Dorm Life". Check my earlier blog about Round 1 including Best Character, Best Episode, Worst Relationship, and more!!
Best Prank
The winner is:
The Window of Pain
"Prank War" is really one of the most underrated episodes for the fact that it is purely the prank war that breaks on 5-South. Of course, really, I could NOT chose the Window of Pain for this accolade simply just for Marshall's reaction before, during, and after this successful attempt. Pure hilarity just for the fact that the viewers are as shocked as Marshall is.
Best Quote
The winner is:
"Dreamers make their own permission"-Court
During "Blood, Sweat, and Tears", we find out that Court was Philantrophy Chair for Chi Chi Chi and she lost it. The blood drive was the way to regain her title. As Britt notices that there are no people from the blood drive or XXX Advisors, so it seems like Court didn't get permission. With this quote, it is made oh so clear that she didn't. Funny, character-driven, and so true in love elevates this quote to legendary status!!
Best Plot Twist
The winner is:
Dean hates his job.-"Dormal"
I loved Dormal. Defintely the stronger half of the season finale, it was funny, emotional, and had a lot of character development. Steph gets to finally stand up to Marshall, Marshall realizes that he was a douchebag, Mike and Britt kiss before they realize that it is too awkward, Court finally puts the floor before Chi Chi Chi, Shane shares his talents with everybody by playing the piano. However, the greatest plot development may come from one of the supporting characters that people either loved or hated-RD Dean Tomilinson. The resident hippie, he just truly loved everybody, it seemed. However, during Dormal, he chose as his replacement Marshall over the much more talented Yassi. Fans everywhere were confused and angry that Dean had fell for Marshall's act. However in Dean's only interaction directly with the camera, he reveals that he hates his job and gave Marshall the job just to punish him. As Dean took off his tie, fans were gasping for air. Great twist!!!
Most Awkward Moment
The winner is:
Mike walking out of Britt and Court's room and right into Britt-"Group Shot"
So Mike and Britt were destined to get together. They are like the Ross and Rachel of Dorm Life-it was inevitable. So, as soon as he dumped Emily, they were going to slide right into a relationship. Oh, man, were we naive in Season 1? "Group Shot" is such an awkward episode, I have only seen it twice. I don't hate the episode, I just hate what happens. It should have been called "The What NOT to do when you are drunk guide". Call your mother names. CHECK Break your phone. CHECK. Reveal your secret relationship with your RA. CHECK. Most importantly, Hook up with your good girl friend's roommate even when you don't know about her crush. DOUBLE CHECK. The awkward last minutes of "Group Shot" when Mike walks into Britt broke thousands of viewers's hearts as they realized Mike and Britt would never get together
Greatest Slang Term Created By "Dorm Life"
The Winner Is:
Turkey Drop
Surprise upset at the Dormies. I know people were like what about "DTR" or "Octabong" or "Keg Tv". Sorry, the title goes to Turkey Drop simply because we all know someone who in college broke up with their high school girlfriend during Thanksgiving Break thus relieving the dumper of one hundred pounds and right into a rebound relationship. Turkey Drop gets elevated due to the fact that Marshall, the apparent know-it-all about college relationships, delivers the defintion. Priceless.
Best Pop Culture Reference
The Winner Is:
A tie between "Brigadoon" and "Closing Time"
"Dorm Life" is aware that its audience is very with their pop culture. It commonly references Shelby Wu and Boy Meets World along with other mid-90s pop culture popular for children of the time. However for me, the two greatest references come from Josh in late season 2. In "Spoooky Adventure", Josh comments that his documentary was overwrought like "Brigadoon" which for any musical fan, they know that Brigadoon is a disgrace to the musical. In "Dormal", Josh tells Linda "you don't have to go home but you can't stay here" which is a great reference to "Closing Time" one of my favorite songs.
Oh wow, I so totally agree with "Best Plot Twist"...I still feel like I just got cold water in my face when I even THINK about Dean whipping off his tie!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I also loved your choice for Awkward Moment...that is still painful to watch.
Oh, and yes, the reference to Brigadoon was priceless. There's a reason I call it "Brigadon't."
