My Favorite Movies...#10

So, I have been thinking about my favorite movies for the longest time. Sure, my top 5 have been in place since 2010, but the bottom half has always been in flux. So, I have decided to publicly publish my top ten list in this blog, starting from the bottom up. Throughout, I will talk about what makes these movies my favorites.
However, I will briefly discuss why the top 10 are composed the way they are.
First of all, I have to love to watch it. A lot of these, I will watch when they rerun on tv because they always interest me, even if I own the DVD. I can quote it in my daily lexicon and recognize references made about it in popular culture.
Actually, that is the only condition really....
Anyway, on to number 10.....

Yes, indeed. It is Young Frankenstein from 1974. One of the TWO great Mel Brooks movies from that year. (Blazing Saddles was also released that year. Needless to say Mel Brooks was on fire!) Now, don't get me wrong. I love Blazing Saddles. I grew up watching the very westerns that it makes fun of but a lot of it doesn't sit right with me now (especially the farting scene, which I know was a big deal at the time.) I need to honestly rewatch that movie but, even though I have the 30th anniversary DVD, I just don't feel the urge to rewatch it.

However, I could honestly rewatch Young Frankenstein every chance I get. The heart of the movie is so big. The performances are hilarious and easily among the highlights of all of the actors (yes, including Gene Hackman.) The writing is almost pitch perfect and still so easily quotable. (I may go into a Young Frankenstein reverie sometimes and start singing "Roll in the Hay" just for kicks.

For those of you who are not in the know, the plot of "Young Frankenstein is this: (thanks, IMDB) "When the will of Victor Frankenstein, the famous scientist who attempted to reanimate dead bodies, is opened, his grandson, Frederick, who's become a skilled neurosurgeon and teacher and has cut most ties with his family name due to his grandfather's experiments, is given the castle where all the experiments were made. Upon his arrival, Frederick finds and reads through his grandfather's book about his theories and experiments and discovers that they might in fact work. Assisted by Igor, the grandson of the Igor who assisted Victor Frankenstein, and Inga, an attractive lab assistant, he successfully reanimates a body which soon escapes and creates havoc..."  That's about right. If you haven't seen it, rush out and do so RIGHT NOW.

So, you might be asking if I have seen the musical yet. The answer is a no. I have heard mixed to bad reviews about it, which isn't very promising. As a matter of fact, I couldn't even include the movie verson of "Roll in the Hay" to this post but if I wanted to, I could include maybe 30 versions of the song from the musical. If you are reading this and have seen the musical, comment below and try to convince me to watch it or tell me that my assumptions are right.

I know I haven't spent much time on this, but this is supposed why I love you and why I want you to watch it. So, keep your eyes posted for the rest of my favorite movies. Hopefully you enjoyed my perspective!
